falcon cam

Posted on Jun 2nd, 2008 by geognosy : curious geognosy
Last year I loved watching the falcons on this falcon cam on CBC from Manitoba.  Right now there are three little fluffy chicks, if Mom or Dad move out of the way.  Things can get grisly, when they bring home a pigeon and rip it into shreds for the young'uns, but such is life.

The nest is located near the top of a major hotel in downtown Winnipeg.

SAD UPDATE:  (June 6, 2008) The chicks this year died during heavy rain.  The fire department tried to save them,  but  it was not to be.   So unfortunately the link to the falcon cam above does not actually show a nest at this time.

2009 UPDATE:  The link still works (as of May 27, 2009) and there are chicks!

chemtrails

Chemtrails
The chemtrails lately have become rather spectacular.  Doesn't seem like quite  the right word, even though they are a spectacle.  The official explanation is that they are  pollution ("vapor") from jets, but I am not convinced.  For one thing there are hundreds of jets landing and taking off every day.  So why only three blatant chemtrails?

At the very bottom, perhaps not even visible, is a crane atop what is to be the tallest building in Vancouver.  The tallest building in Vancouver is a distinction that does not last long.  This tallest building is not even complete yet and already it is to be eclipsed by another that is straining to reach up to the sky.
